The Tyranids exist for a single purpose – to consume. Guided by the vast alien intelligence of the Hive Mind, countless organisms descend upon inhabited worlds, overwhelming defenders through sheer numbers before stripping entire planets of useful biomass. From expendable Termagants and frenzied Hormagaunts to highly specialised predators, every creature has been bioengineered to fulfil a role within the greater swarm.

At the centre of this Battleforce is a mighty Hive Tyrant, a powerful synapse creature capable of directing the lesser organisms around it and maintaining their connection to the Hive Mind. The kit provides extensive customisation options and can alternatively be assembled as a soaring Winged Hive Tyrant or the legendary Swarmlord, giving Tyranid players three very different centrepiece options from the same miniature.

The Hive Tyrant can be equipped with a range of terrifying biological weaponry, including scything talons, a heavy venom cannon, stranglethorn cannon, or the combination of bonesword and lash whip. Additional biomorphs and components provide further opportunities to personalise the creature to suit your chosen hive fleet.

Operating ahead of the main swarm is a Lictor, a terrifying Tyranid predator specialised for stalking and eliminating valuable targets. The highly customisable kit includes alternative heads, interchangeable legs and clawed arms, adjustable scything talons, and scenic basing components, providing considerable freedom when deciding how your Lictor will creep, stalk, or strike.

The Lictor is joined by 3 Von Ryan's Leapers, swift hunting organisms that can surge towards vulnerable enemy units while the remainder of the swarm advances. Together, these predatory creatures provide a dangerous forward element capable of putting immediate pressure on an opponent.

Providing a more adaptable fighting unit are 3 Tyranid Warriors. These imposing synapse creatures have access to an extensive biological arsenal including scything talons, rending claws, boneswords, lash whips, spinefists, devourers, deathspitters, a venom cannon, barbed strangler, and flesh hooks. The kit also provides components for assembling a Tyranid Prime, including a distinctive head, crest, chest plate, shoulder guards, and optional scythed tail.

The bulk of the invasion is provided by 10 Hormagaunts and 10 Termagants. Hormagaunts are fast and aggressive creatures designed to close with their prey and tear it apart, while Termagants provide ranged support with their living weapons. The Termagants can be armed with fleshborers, devourers, or paired spinefists, with additional options for a shardlauncher, spike rifle, and strangleweb.

Finally, 2 Ripper Swarms accompany the larger organisms, representing the voracious creatures that gather in vast numbers to consume whatever remains in the wake of a Tyranid assault.

Together, the Battleforce provides a varied Tyranid army featuring a powerful leader, specialised hunters, adaptable Warriors, and numerous smaller creatures. With so many organisms advancing simultaneously, an opponent must decide whether to concentrate on the Hive Tyrant and other major threats or attempt to stop the mass of Gaunts flooding across the battlefield and seizing vital objectives.

With numerous weapon choices and modelling options throughout the collection, Battleforce: Tyranid Swarm is also an excellent hobby project. Players can adapt the miniatures to their preferred battlefield roles and bring the entire swarm together with the colours and markings of an established hive fleet or a completely original Tyranid colour scheme.
