Description

Voice of Command (Hardback) is a Warhammer 40,000 Astra Militarum novel by Richard Swan, following the battle-hardened soldiers of the 2002nd Cadian Mechanised Regiment as they fight to reclaim a fallen shrine-city from the forces of Chaos. After two years of relentless warfare, victory finally appears to be within reach – but the Archenemy may no longer be the greatest threat facing the regiment.

Saint Stanislava's Adoration was once the finest shrine-city in the Maelstrom Zone and the crowning jewel of the planet Nymea. Now it lies devastated and corrupted, transformed into a Chaos-infested ruin. Imperial forces have spent two gruelling years breaking the enemy's hold over the planet, and only Adoration remains between them and final victory.

Leading the 2002nd Cadian Mechanised Regiment is Colonel Gabriel 'Venom' Velterson, a commander desperate to bring the campaign to an end and get his surviving soldiers off Nymea. Yet reaching the final battle has proven almost as dangerous as fighting it.

A mysterious blue star casts its toxic light across the battlefield. Heretical transmissions pour endlessly through a compromised vox-network. The Inquisition subjects the Cadians to quarantine and scrutiny, while unpredictable Nymean commanders seem disturbingly willing to sacrifice Velterson's soldiers in pursuit of their own objectives.

With the final assault on Saint Stanislava's Adoration approaching, Velterson must hold his regiment together while confronting enemies both beyond and within the Imperium's own war machine. The Cadians have survived everything Nymea has thrown at them so far, but their last battle could finally liberate the shrine world – or destroy the 2002nd altogether.

Voice of Command places the ordinary soldiers of the Astra Militarum at the heart of the grim darkness of the far future, combining desperate military action with suspicion, Imperial politics, and the crushing realities of serving an empire engaged in endless war. It is the first full-length Black Library novel by acclaimed author Richard Swan.
