Description

Engine Thieves: The Andrews Railroad Raid of 1862 is a tense historical wargame that recreates one of the most daring special operations of the American Civil War. On April 12, 1862, Union agent James Andrews and his raiders hijacked the locomotive The General deep behind Confederate lines, launching a race against time to sabotage rail infrastructure between Atlanta and Chattanooga and cripple Confederate communications and reinforcements.

  • A High-Stakes Historical Raid – Follow the real route taken by Andrews’ Raiders as they bluff their way through Confederate-held stations, cut telegraph wires, burn bridges, and damage track, all while Confederate forces give relentless chase.
  • Solo and Two-Player Gameplay – Play solo as the Union Raiders in a nail-biting race to reach Bridgeport, or play with two players where one commands the Confederates, pursuing the raiders, inflicting casualties, and preventing their sabotage.
  • Victory Through Sabotage and Survival – As the Union player, you must accumulate at least 25 Victory Points by completing objectives such as destroying infrastructure, defeating enemy units, and ultimately bringing the stolen train to Bridgeport, while keeping your raiders alive.
  • Time Pressure and Narrative Tension – The game ends if the raiders reach Bridgeport, abandon the train, are all killed or captured, or if the time track reaches 4:00pm, ensuring constant urgency and dramatic decision-making.

Engine Thieves delivers a focused, story-driven wargame experience that combines historical narrative, asymmetric objectives, and relentless pursuit, making it an excellent choice for solo players and head-to-head matches alike.
