The year is 1888. Automated probes sent to Mars have transmitted evidence that two priceless kinds of ore not found on Earth, celerium and sylvanite, lie beneath the planet’s surface. These minerals hold the potential to completely transform life on Earth in an age of rapid technological advancement and population growth. Even more incredibly, the probes also found ice, which could be used to create an atmosphere around Mars and enable permanent human settlement there.

In Mission: Red Planet, players assume the roles of mining corporations competing to control resources on Mars.

You are the leader of a mining corporation, and cannot allow those resources to escape from your hands. Taking control of the main deposits on the Red Planet before your rivals is imperative. From your cosy offices in Beijing, Moscow or New York, your journey cannot wait any longer... to Mars!

The game accommodates 2 to 6 players, each sending astronauts to Mars tomine resources and complete missions. The game is played over 10 rounds, where players select specialist cards to perform actions like deploying astronauts, launching ships, and manipulating game events. Players score points by controlling zones, mining resources (Celerium, Sylvanite, and Ice), and completing mission objectives. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins. Special rules apply for two-player games, where each player controls a main and a neutral color, with separate scoring.
