Model's Counterattack is a historical operational-level wargame recreating one of the most dramatic campaigns of the Second World War. Set during the aftermath of the Soviet Operation Bagration in the summer of 1944, players command German and Soviet forces as they battle across central Poland in a desperate struggle for Warsaw, the Vistula River, and the crucial Magnuszew bridgehead.

In the summer of 1944, the Soviet Union launched Operation Bagration, one of the most devastating offensives of the Second World War. German Army Group Centre was shattered, allowing Soviet forces to surge westwards towards the Vistula River and the outskirts of Warsaw. With the German front collapsing, Field Marshal Walter Model gathered every available reserve, launching a series of determined counterattacks in an attempt to halt the Soviet advance.

Model's Counterattack places players in command of these opposing forces during this critical phase of the campaign. German commanders must carefully coordinate scarce armoured reserves and launch well-timed counterblows to stabilise the front, while Soviet players seek to exploit their momentum, expand the dangerous bridgehead at Magnuszew, and maintain pressure along the entire front.

Each of the game's ten turns represents one day of combat, while the hex-based map covers approximately two kilometres per hex. Units range from battalions to brigades, with an emphasis on armoured, mechanised, and motorised formations, creating a highly mobile operational battlefield full of difficult strategic decisions.

With a moderate ruleset, realistic historical situation, and a playing time of approximately four to five hours, Model's Counterattack offers an engaging operational wargame that rewards careful planning, flexible tactics, and timely counterattacks.
