Armed with a rapid-firing 20mm Hispano-Suiza autocannon, it offered reliable fire support and battlefield intelligence capabilities for West German armoured formations.

Its nickname among troops, the “combat wheelchair,” reflects both its small size and its role as an early step in the evolution of the modern infantry fighting vehicle.
